Topic 6.08.23 Sports. Games and Strenuous Activity. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017
Unlike the rhythmic breathing in Yogic practices, breathing becomes vigorous, often a-rhythmic in many sports, games and other strenuous activity. This vigorous breathing will disturb the particular rhythm you are trying to cultivate in the body and mind through Yoga practices. A consideration would be to separate your activities, for instance practise Yoga in the mornings, and your sport at night. If you must do them back-to-back, do your sport first. The Yoga practices can follow.
Obsession and Competition, as we have already seen ordinarily does not apply to your regular Yoga health maintenance classes, and in the interest of your general health and well-being, do not:
Suddenly do much more exercise than you are used to.
Enter a competition without adequate training.
Enter a competition if you are unwell, even if you have trained for many months before.
