Topic 6.08.20 Avoid Eye-Strain. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017
In the beginning, keep your eyes open. It will be easier to know what you are doing, and where you go wrong. If you shut your eyes you will not be able to watch the required movements of your body and limbs, nor the direction in which you are doing the poses. You could lull yourself into a false sense of ‘relaxation’, in which you dreamily connect with your ‘feelings’ but in reality is a kind of unaware sleep!
Keep your eyes closed only when you are perfect in a particular asana. Now you will have developed the awareness to be able to adjust bodily movements and feel the correct stretches.
• When your eyes have to be focused for any length of time, blink frequently.
• Do not neglect your Yoga eye exercise routine, neytrasana. Remove your spectacles or contact lenses when you practise these.
– (Refer to my chart entitled: Neytrasana, yogic eye exercises).
