Topic 6.08.12 Attention, Concentration, Mindfulness. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017
Attention, Concentration, Mindfulness
• The focus of attention is very important. When the mind touches the body, cells respond. When the whole mind is given to each and every action, best results eventuate.
• Mentally check your position. Make required adjustments and corrections.
• Move slowly to enable you to develop and deepen your attention, which automatically clears the mind of other thoughts. Here you are aware of the entire body without focusing.
• Clearance of mind, even for a few moments, brings about tremendous mental relaxation and increased confidence.
• As you develop further, attention deepens into concentration.
• Body, breath, mind are brought together, and a wonderful feeling of integration results.
• This cannot be practiced, cultivated or faked. It simply happens as you cultivate the correct attitude and mood necessary.
• Any forcing or effort towards it immediately results in loss of concentration.
• Concentration will give way to mindfulness, which is a significant principle of yoga. Be present. Be openly aware. Practise with effortless clarity. Get into silence and stillness. Liberation is attained through the dissolution of all individuality.
