Topic 6.08.10 Never Strain or Force

Topic 6.08.10 Never Strain or Force. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017

Love and respect your body. Think of your Yoga session as a treat – an enjoyable investment in well-being.

To dominate and force various joints, muscles and ligaments to respond suddenly     and instantly to will of mind can lead to serious injury or permanent damage.

A neglected body tissue (and its owner!) will do well to recognise this, as various aches and pains sometimes make themselves felt during the commencing period.

Use caution and common sense.

Pay attention to your body.

Trying to do too much too quickly will only retard your progress.

Do not torture yourself. ‘It has to hurt to be of any good!’ is certainly not true of Yoga. Yoga is the gentle way.

Faulty practice causes discomfort and uneasiness within a few days. This is

sufficient to indicate that you might be going wrong. If you cannot find the fault by yourself, please approach the teacher for guidance and modification of the asana and movements to suit your condition.

Pain is a danger signal devised by the body to stop immediately or otherwise risk injury. Respect pain as the indicator. Let it alert you.

Command your attention to modify its cause.
