Purva karma (pre-treatment)
Warm the area to be treated, pacifies vata.
- Use a wet towel that has been heated, either by using a microwave or in a rice cooker.
Pradhana karma (treatment)
- position compartment on lower back.
- use gauze to remove oil
- gradually heating the oil each time
- Never leave the back exposed without hot oil
- 20 minutes duration
- Look at what time you started
- Check time before you start the main treatment
- Remove dough from back, gently taking off any residue flour
Paschat karma (post treatment)
- massage (abhyanga) 5 minutes
- pinch besan flour to clean oil off skin
- hot towel place over lower back, clean up area
- hot shower is recommended after treatment
- Assist client when coming off massage table
- Stress the importance to the client of not getting cold, keep warm.
Clean-up procedure
- clean all utensils used, including the rice cooker and microwave
- wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant
- clear and clean tea pot and cups from reception
- tidy up any magazines or books
- rubbish bin to be cleared and cleaned in massage room
- Turn appliances off: bottle warmer, rice cooker, hot water heater for shower etc.
- if any oil spillages, mop floor
