Topic 6.08.28 Relaxation, Yoga Nidra. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017

Usually the mentality of tense people is that they rush from one task to another, from one thought to another, without a pause. They drive themselves with this ultra-competitive attitude, and when strength fails, they resort to drugs and/or alcohol. This may be attributed to unrealistic schedules or disorganised personal planning, and/or improperly developed lifestyle. Having intervals between activities, permits you to assimilate what’s been learnt.

Your body acts in a similar way.  In between asanas, wherever necessary and appropriate, relax in the corpse pose, Savasana, or the reversed corpse, Advasana.

At the end of your practice, Shavasana should be done for a longer time, at least a minimum of three minutes.

Make sure that there is no straining or heavy breathing at all during the practice. The beauty of Yoga lies in its gentleness. You need never experience draining fatigue or painful sore muscles.

Settle your breath. Calm your nerves.

Let your muscles rebound from a delightful stretch.

Recharge not just physical batteries, but also mental and spiritual batteries.

Even at the end of your practice, you should feel quite fresh, both physically and mentally.

Relaxation will not just make you  feel better; it will make you look better too.

Real relaxation is the absence of tension. This is often difficult for the beginner who thinks s/he can achieve anything and everything by using the will for action. It is a positive state of balance and equilibrium, of mind and body, attained through the action of Shanti Yoga, which allows you to release pent-up energies, stored tensions, and energy blocks. It includes rejuvenation, rest and renewal.

Contemplative concentration is recommended.
