Topic 6.08.16 Acrobatics and Difficult Postures. VERSION CONTROL: 1 August 2017
• You may not reach the ‘perfect’ (ideal) position shown in books, charts or by the teacher at once. Acrobatics and difficult postures do not make a true Yogi.
• Do not be discouraged. It is not just final position that is important, but methodical and systematic approach.
• On commencing, postures present a slight, pleasant, bearable sensation of initial discomfort.
• It is at this point that you should maintain the posture.
• From here on, over weeks and months, by developing (holding) and sustaining the posture, you gradually learn to overcome the resistance of the body and soon feel pleasant sensations of enjoyment and increased confidence.
• Avoid sharp pain at any time.
• Avoid getting stuck in a mentality of “not trying”.
• ‘Advanced’ Yoga is the ability to hold a posture for an appreciable length of time.
